Indonesia Anonymus

We are a group of Indonesians, ranting about our beloved country. This blog is a result of many people grumbling about many things in many ways.

Name:

Anonymus is the Latin word for anonymous, the correct English spelling. The Latin spelling, however, is traditionally used by scholars in the humanities to refer to an ancient writer whose name is not known, or to a manuscript of their work. Read more at Wikipedia.

Appetite

Do you know that Indonesia is one of the biggest rice producers in the world?
With almost 34.9 million tons a year, Indonesia is on the top 3, below China and India. (Bangladesh no. 4, Vietnam no. 5, Thailand no. 6)

Impressed?
Sure. Unfortunately, we eat all those rice: We consume 35.8 million tons a year. A deficit of almost 1 million tons!
Compare that to Vietnam who produces 22.7 million tons and consumes 18.2 million, or Thailand who produces 18.2 million and consumes 9.5 million, then we can see we have a long way to go.

By the way, other than the facts above, Indonesia is the:
4th biggest producer of coffee
5th biggest producer of tea
8th biggest producer of fruits

Not bad at all.

Too bad we're not that good in managing all those "biggest producer of ... " blessings.

And oh, we're also biggest forest destroyer on earth.

i think we should bear in mind that the population of indonesia is 245 million, compared to 85 million for vietnam and 61 million for thailand. then we can work out the consumption per capita. that would make more sense.

So, Indonesians know how to produce food. That's great. But the unique selling point, in my opinion, is Indonesian cooking.

Indonesia's marketeers should brand Indonesia as a five star "cuisine".

And 2nd biggest palm oil producer!

But this does not, interestingly, make many Indonesians think that agriculture is a great business. Many good brains focus themselves on more industrial, "clean" job places.
